On 25 November 2021 it was World Nutritional Day, and there were celebrations in some Malagasy regions. We were especially involved with the celebration in Ambositra on 23 November 2021 where the principal topic was “School Feeding”.
The main objective of this celebration was to obtain more donor funding for the people and children who live in the south of Madagascar, because they suffer from hunger.
We (Ny Tanintsika - School Feeding Program) were invited to this celebration because we are one of the organisations who give support and education to school feeding programs in many primary schools.
This event was a big opportunity for us (and the school) to share more information about our project and to be recognised by the government and other organizations who work with projects associated with school feeding and nutrition.
During the visit, government representatives and other partners gave some cooking equipment and other materials to the primary school of Ilaka Centre to be used for their school garden, to help them improve and maintain it.
The school feeding programme offers other opportunities for schools and children, such as helping them obtain more partners to support them in other activities or projects they would like to start.
For the second part of the celebration, there was an exposition to show how we work for the school feeding program, who are we, who we are working with and the size of our intervention.
Some partners (e.g., World Food Program and Office National de Nutrition) were very interested in our work and they wanted us to share more about our strategies and approaches to achieve our objectives.
We hope that there will be more opportunities for us in the future to share everything about our school feeding program and how it helps the communities we work in.
